You don’t NEED to do anything… It’s what the company (driver is secondary) wants to get done. But as the driver, you get to have some say in what you do as long as it’s not unreasonable.

But to affirm the answer said above: Yes, if you have the hours and have not made arrangements for time off, then they can send you on a load; Providing that said load isn’t going to violate your HOS. If you’re home when time runs out, they may (or may not) care.
